Giving back to worthy causes
We work together to support and protect the local community. Every year our colleagues vote on charities which mean something to them and we pick an overall charity to support through our own fundraising initiatives. The team organise all kinds of events to raise money for the charity from 10K runs, raffles, pub quiz nights to cake stalls. Over the years, we’ve completed challenges including cycling the length of Britain, open water swimming, marathons & half marathons and the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in support of the following great causes:
- St Michael’s Hospice
- The Firecracker Ball for Barnardo’s
- Bliss – for babies born too soon, too small and too sick
- Lymphoma Research
- SNAP (Special Needs Activity Playscheme)
- Yorkshire Cancer Research
- Variety Children’s Charity
This years chosen charity is mental health charity Mind which helps those who are struggling with a mental health problem. They provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We are passionate that everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect they need. We look after our team by providing support through open conversations. Every team member also has access to Sovereign Health Care which includes an employee assistance programme to support the wellbeing of all our colleagues.
Christmas can be a challenging time for many with extra financial pressures placed on individuals and families. Every year, each of our sites starts a collection of non-perishable food from tins and jars which we donate to food banks over the Winter period which helps those in need to put food on the table in times of crisis. Care professionals such as health visitors, schools and social workers identify people in crisis and issue them with a food bank voucher. This means those in need can receive a food bank parcel of three days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food from their local food bank. You can find a local food bank here
We recognise that involvement in the community benefits those with who we engage, the individual members of staff who are engaged, and the Company itself through its involvement and association with and through those in the community with who we interact with.
